The Consciousness Machine
Every slice stays. The body stays in its slice. The machine moves the mind.
What you are looking at: a small universe that really runs, one row of light per slice of time. A mind sends a message from a later slice back to an earlier one while the body stays put. Gold: the loop closes. Otherwise it is a paradox, and the trip never happens.

The computational universe of time travel
Put a rule in and watch what it does: treat each of the 256 elementary rules as a universe idea. Gold is how often a grandfather loop closes and the message still matters. Wolfram's Ruliad is the limit of all such rules run all ways speculative; this is one slice of it.
How the glow is computed
Try a leap
A mind at a later slice reads a few cells of its world and sends bits back to an earlier slice. The bits change the world, which changes what the mind reads. Pick a universe and see which histories survive the trip.
Set in stone
The further back a leap goes, the more of the present its message can reach. Inside the write's light cone the sender can be unmade; outside it, exactly one history happens.
Run time backwards
Make the next slice from the present and the past: next = rule(present) XOR past. Every one of the 256 rules becomes exactly invertible. Play it forward, then backward, and land on the seed bit for bit.
The multiway
Every message the leap could carry starts its own history. Branches that become the same slice merge for good. Gold leaves are the branches whose loop closes.
The emotional current
A slice's charge is how much one flipped cell in it moves the next slice. A traveler reaches each recorded slice in proportion to its charge: the current runs through charged slices.
What crosses
The traveler arrives in a past self that already holds something. A message sits beside it, a memory squeezes in and pushes the overflow out, a mind takes the whole room. Every erased bit costs heat.
The walls
Everything that breaks a time machine, grouped by family. Rename the machine and some walls stop being walls: they only stood in the way of a body.
The ladder
From what people do every day to what no one can do. Each rung says what exists today and what already runs in Morrow.
Impossible today
Real today
What reasoning found
Where separate lines of thought land on the same answer. Each claim carries its evidence and how far it is known.
The core rail
Each idea on this page came down a line of repos, oldest first. Ride it outward from the first repo, then back: the future reads the past it came from.
